Jason Tebb, Group Chief Operating Officer of Go Develop comments on the Rightmove House Price Index:

“With all but two of the UK’s regions showing a month on month increase in asking prices in February, the data released this morning from Rightmove proves that there is still much to be optimistic about in terms of the current UK housing market.

Looking at activity across our developments over the past month, we observed a steady stream of buyers and indeed, registered a substantial number of offers at all price points, from First Time Buyers to family movers, all of which built on the momentum we’ve seen since the beginning of the year. This supports our assertion that, for the most part at least, the ongoing Brexit debacle doesn’t appear to be impacting many buyers for whom either aspiration or necessity means that now is the right time for them to be purchasing.

We would suspect that, with the threat of a ‘no deal’ scenario now seemingly removed, whilst there will inevitably be yet more debate around the details and timescales of our departure from the EU, this will provide any prospective purchasers who were perhaps concerned about job security with enough confidence to go ahead and purchase in the coming months. As such, given the current levels of traction we’ve seen so far this month and the pent-up demand from buyers who’ve been waiting in the wings, we are confident that buyers will continue to make up for lost time over the coming weeks.”
